Ida B Wells and her fight

                                                                 Ida B Wells

Ida B Wells was born in Holly Springs Mississippi. She was the oldest daughter of Lizzie and James Wells. In total she had 7 siblings. In no particular order, her  siblings were Eugenia, Annie, James, Lily, Stanley, and Eddie Wells. Wells was born in the middle of the civil war. Her parents were slaves at the time which means she was also a slave. When Wells was around the age of four her parents became politically active in Reconstruction Era politics. Her parents put their beliefs into Ida’s education.

Wells wanted people of all skins to be treated equally. She wanted people to not give up their seats on trains or busses or any type of transportation, especially if you paid for it and had to move because of the color of your skin. Wells believed that  people should not have to give up their seats on public transportation.  Wells changed the world by making people treat each other equally. She reached this by filing a lawsuit against the train company.

Wells won her lawsuit and now blacks and whites don't sit far apart or get kicked off the train for the color of their skin. They can sit next to each other without fighting. If someone files a complaint about the seating. They will be escorted off the train. Wells is an unsung hero because she did this a few months before Rosa Parks and no one recognized her but everyone recognized Parks.

I am very glad that I picked Ida B Wells because she did very important things to help us be equal. Even though she is an unsung hero her voice should be heard. Ida B Wells is an important role model because she shows us that you don't have to get a reward or even be known by people to be a hero. You just have to be kind and help people not for rewards but just to be kind.
